For this month’s talk we welcome Professor Paul Kamau Mbugua, a world authority on one of the most popular succulent plant genera, Sansevieria. These plants have always been popular with collectors and in recent years have found popularity as houseplants. In this talk Paul will be taking us to see sansevieria growing in the wild and showing us how they compete with natural vegetation and man-made factors such as residential areas. His knowledge of this genus is extensive and this talk will draw on his vast experience. Paul has recently presented at the Sansevieria conference / convention.
Prof. Paul Kamau Mbugua is an Associate Professor in Plant Sciences at Kenyatta University where he has taught for 36 years. He is President of the Kenya Chapter of the Society for Ethnobotany, and President of the Kenya Branch of the Society of Christian Scholars. He was awarded the National Outstanding Research Award (NORA) by the National Research Fund Festival, Government of Kenya, on 23 August 2024.
These are plants that so many of us grow and we are positive that this talk will be of great interest to viewers of all abilities as there is so much more to know about the genus Sansevieria.
