Representative to The Board of Trustees

MR BARRY TIBBETS

Background and Other Interests
Originally from Barnet, but has now lived in Milton Keynes for the past 30 years. Currently working as a Health & Safety Inspector and Trainer in the storage and warehousing industry. Married with 2 sons and 6 grandchildren. He has a lifelong passion for anything to do with railways – both real and model. Barry is also deeply interested in other areas of horticulture, and belongs to the British Conifer Society, the International Camellia Society, and the Rhododendron, Camellia and Magnolia special interest group of the RHS.

Cacti and Succulents
Joined the North London Branch as a junior in the late 1950s. When he married and moved to Dunstable, Barry joined the Luton Branch for a few years, but has now been at Northampton and Milton Keynes Branch for the last 25 years. He was persuaded to join the committee, and became Show Secretary for 11 years until 2007, when he became Branch Chairman. Looking at his collection of plants, he reckons that his favourite genera are Echinocereus, Neoporteria, Euphorbia and Aloe, although he grows most of the others as well. He also belongs to the International Euphorbia Society and the Mammillaria Society.

Judging and participation in the Shows Committee
Barry qualified as a Judge in 2004, and joined the Shows Committee in 2007, where he keeps busy helping to organise and run Judges Courses and National Shows.
