René is a cactus enthusiast and grower. He joined the Swiss Cactus Association (SCA) in 1991 and soon became a member of its Board. He has since held various positions and is currently the SCA’s webmaster. He has around 1500 plants in four small greenhouses and a garden with winter-hardy cacti and yuccas.
René says, “In 2013 I made my first field trip and went to Chile with three friends from Switzerland. Peru was the destination for the second trip in 2015, followed by Argentina in 2016. In this talk we will begin our trip in Lima, gathering some pleasant impressions of the Peruvian capital. Then we’ll travel north to the Laguna Conococha where we’ll see Haageocereus, Melocactus and Oroya. In the regions of Cajamarca, Chachapoyas and Jaen we will witness the influence of the Amazon climate on the landscape which is green and full of cacti and bromeliads. Some ancient pre-Inca sites will also be featured. For the return journey to Lima, we’ll follow the dry coastline dotted with Haageocereus and Mila.”
This talk has something for everybody! Put it in your diary as a “Must see!”
